(2nd attempt at posting, the first I think I did something wrong…)
A few things I noticed about this episode that I found worthy of discussion:
1. Ghost Patti's "WTF was that?" response to AFTEC agent Lois Makepeace's rather nonchalant dismissal of any role Kevin may have had in Patti's fate. I have a feeling we'll see Lois (and more AFTEC) again, and at least figure out why she asked Kevin about her missing eye; I think there's a reason why she asked the question (possibly as a way to vet those she interrogates.) I'm ruling out some conjecture I've seen and heard elsewhere that she lost her right eye (and only her right eye) during the Sudden Departure, but I wouldn't put it past her to make that claim if asked, just to see how people react.
2. While animal quarantine is normal for animals leaving one country and entering another, it certainly isn't "normal" for animal quarantine protocols to be in place for dogs (as they called them, "wildlife") within a country, at least in our world. This idea of a quarantine for dogs (and cats, as seen on the message board on the door) within the park itself, as well as the wristbands (which serve as an internal passport of sorts) are indicative of a a Federal government with a more expanded scope than in our world, which I'm reasonably assuming is because of the aftermath of the Sudden Departure. It reminds me somewhat of China's Hukou internal residency policy. As an aside, Ghost Patti talks to Kevin inside the kennel area while the dog is there (even offers to keep it company), so the presence of the dog doesn't seem to have an effect on her appearing or not appearing.
Finally, if the Sudden Departure is, as the MIT dudes claim, a matter of geography, this leads me to another hypothesis. Although Damon and Tom have stated that they won't explain how the Sudden Departure occurred, I don't think it will stop them from putting out red herrings that will let the audience guess as to how it most likely didn't happen (we saw this last season with the crank impersonating Nora at the DROP conference claiming, in the best conspiracy theory tradition, that the DSD incinerates all of the questionnaires outside of Tallahassee, Florida sight unseen, and that in 2005, the Israeli Mosad was experimenting with a plasma ray that could target all human matter and leave almost no residue – the former claim may have some truth to it insofar that there may well be a place where the questionnaires are ultimately incinerated (although we know that the DSD does track the responses), but the latter claim most likely doesn't — it doesn't appear that the MIT dudes would accept that claim because it doesn't fit into their geography-based conjecture). So at least we can assume that the Sudden Departure wasn't caused by Israeli plasma rays targeting human (and only human) matter.
Love the podcast, I'll call in at some point during the season.

Hi Mark! Thanks for the kind words! Im positive we'll see Lois again, and there is no way she lost just her right eye in the departure! But, I think you are right in that it's probably a test she employs for people she is about to speak to.

Here's the thing about the Matter Of Geography theory – if that was the case, then how did the baby disappear out of Laurie's womb? They're in the same spot right?
There was a thread going on IMDB where someone suggested that the fetus in fact did not depart and that Laurie decided on terminating the pregnancy instead. At first, I wasn't inclined to agree with that (based on the look on Laurie's face during the Sudden Departure), but if a fetus were to suddenly disappear from her womb, I'd think that it would have caused Laurie some serious physiological trauma to her bod (similar to a miscarriage, but possibly even more severe), and yet it didn't see to do so. There is a possibility that Laurie ultimately decided not to bring the fetus to term, and that her realization that she didn't want it happened when the Sudden Departure occurred was just a coincidence. This may be an unorthodox view, but just throwing it out there.
Of course, if this were the case, then her motivations to join up with the GR would have been a bit different (and I don't think losing the baby, however it happened, was the only reason she joined up at any rate). I'm starting to think that her primary motivations for joining the GR had to do with her not thinking she could effectively do her job as psychologist (or for that matter, the mother role in the Garvey family) in light of the Sudden Departure. Since Laurie's going to be in the next episode, I'm hoping we'll get better insight on this. Hopefully we may get some info as to what role, if any, Laurie had in the death by stoning of Gladys (I think she was probably there when it happened, based on her being the one who found the body, as well as the very specific flashback she had while looking in the mirror at the hotel).
But agreed; the geography hypothesis would have to be pretty darn specific, considering Tommy and Jill were right next to Jill's classmate who departed, not to mention where Kevin was when the woman he was "with" departed. Maybe certain people are immune to its effects.
