    • This location has a rich and unique history. It is on the site of where the Atlantic House Hotel once stood which housed the Naval Academy who referred to it as Paradise. It was the location of the first public roller skating rink in the US and in it’s time was a popular resort location for the wealthy. When the hotel was demolished Parkgate was built for the Stitt family as a summer home. Want to hear more? Come for a tour.
    • There’s been many claims of a little girl spirit roaming the third floor during our investigations we’ve managed to make contact with her. Come and experience it for yourself during this unique opportunity. Hope to see you there!

  • The Frozen Clam Dip: Obsta-Plunge:  Mentoring RI
  • Sunday, January 1st,  11am to 1pm
  • Join the Rhode Island Mentoring Partnership and Laid-back Fitness for the 6th annual Frozen Clam Dip! An invigorating New Year’s Day fundraising plunge that will once again include…the #OBSTAPLUNGE. Offered for the first-time last year, the wildly popular #Obstaplunge, is a half-mile obstacle course along the shore that precedes that frigid jump into Narragansett Bay. This year will also feature a 1.5 mile option!
  • Plungers can sign up for either the traditional plunge or the Obtsaplunge (which is suitable for all ages). Throw in a DJ and some food trucks and it’s a great way to cap your New Year’s celebrations.

  • First Day Hike  – Rocky Point State Park
    • Noon – 2pm
    • First Day Hikes are part of a nationwide initiative led by America’s State Parks to encourage people to get outdoors.  On New Year’s Day, hundreds of free, guided hikes will be organized in all 50 states.  Kids and adults all across America will be participating in First Day Hikes, getting their hearts pumping and enjoying the beauty of a state park.  Last year nearly 28,000 people rang in the New Year, collectively hiking over 66,000 miles throughout the country!
    • First Day Hikes are led by knowledgeable state park staff and volunteers.  The distance and rigor vary from park to park, but all hikes aim to create a fun experience for the whole family.  People are invited to savor the beauty of the state park’s natural resources with the comfort of an experienced guide so they may be inspired to take advantage of these local treasures throughout the year.
    • What better way to kick off the New Year than by getting a jump start burning off those extra holiday calories in the great outdoors?
    • On New Year’s Day, America’s State Parks have all 50 states offering free, guided First Day Hike Programs. These hikes provide a means for individuals and families to welcome the coming year in the outdoors, exercising and connecting with nature.
    • Last year nearly 55,000 people rang in the New Year, collectively hiking over 133,000 miles throughout the country on the guided hikes.  Numerous others hiked state park trails throughout the day.

  • 32nd Annual Hangover Classic 5 Miler – Bristol, RI – Sunday, January 1st 10:30am
  • It’s a classic style road race and start the year off right! Enjoy picturesque Bristol RI with a flat and fast course through Colt State Park and beautiful Poppasquash Rd.
  • One of a kind trophies to the Top 2 Men and Top 2 Women Overall as well as the first male and female in each category: Junior (18 and under), Open (19-29), Sub Master (30-39), Master (40-49), Senior (50-59), Veteran (60-69) and Grand Veteran (70+)
  • T-shirts to the first 250 applicants. The race course is open for 1hr and 15 mins.
  • Race headquarters, including day-of-race registration and bib pickup will be held at Agave restaurant, 805 Hope St, Bristol, RI — opens at 9am, all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet (additional charge) following the race. .
  • Race logistics by Rhode Races Inc. Timing and Scoring by 3c Race Productions. Partial proceeds to benefit the ‘Healthy Huskies’ program at Kickemuit Middle School.
