PRODUCER’S NOTES & TRANSCRIPT | Blood of My Blood 2.01: Did Familiar Conflicts Help Henry’s Story?

Inside The NerdClan · Mary & Blake’s Producer’s Notes

Go inside our preparation for “Remembrance Day”—and follow the disagreement that opened up another way to read the premiere.

Spoilers through “Remembrance Day” only. The future-story ideas below are theories, not confirmed developments.

Julia is back in Lovat’s orbit. Ellen returns to Leoch. Brian returns to his father. Watching the Blood of My Blood Season 2 premiere, I worried that these familiar conflicts would send us through too much of the same ground. Henry’s story, meanwhile, had become painfully unfamiliar: finding his family now depended on preserving the memories that told him who they were.

Mary saw a possible relationship between those two things. If we already understood the pressures around Julia, Ellen, and Brian, we could give more attention to Henry’s new predicament. Familiarity elsewhere might make his story easier to experience.

That became the question worth bringing to the table: did the familiar conflicts help Henry’s story, or leave too much of the premiere feeling reset? We agreed that Henry was the heart of the hour. We gave different weight to what surrounded him.
