The cast of Outlander: Blood of My Blood is led by Harriet Slater as Ellen MacKenzie, Jamie Roy as Brian Fraser, Hermione Corfield as Julia Moriston Beauchamp, and Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp. Together, those four characters form the two love stories at the center of the Outlander prequel: Brian and Ellen eventually become Jamie Fraser’s parents, while Julia and Henry are Claire Beauchamp’s parents.
But the cast gets much bigger — and much more familiar — once the Fraser and MacKenzie families enter the picture. Tony Curran plays Lord Lovat, Séamus McLean Ross plays Colum MacKenzie, Sam Retford plays Dougal MacKenzie, Rory Alexander plays Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser, and Conor MacNeill plays Ned Gowan. That means Blood of My Blood is not simply introducing new characters. It is showing us younger versions of people whose relationships eventually shape Jamie and Claire’s lives in Outlander.

One name that can get confusing:
Jamie Roy is the actor who plays Brian Fraser. He is not playing Jamie Fraser. Brian is Jamie Fraser’s father, while Jamie Fraser is the character played by Sam Heughan in the original Outlander series.
Who Are The Main Characters In Blood Of My Blood?
The easiest way to understand the series is to divide its four central characters into two couples. Brian and Ellen belong to Jamie Fraser’s side of the family. Julia and Henry belong to Claire Beauchamp’s side. Blood of My Blood then surrounds those romances with the family politics, history and time-travel consequences that eventually lead into Outlander.
Harriet Slater As Ellen MacKenzie
Harriet Slater plays Ellen MacKenzie, Jamie Fraser’s mother. Ellen is a daughter of Clan MacKenzie and the sister of Colum, Dougal, Jocasta and Janet. That makes her position inside the family politically valuable long before anyone knows that she will eventually become the mother of Jamie Fraser.
Ellen’s central conflict is that the MacKenzies see marriage as something that can secure power, alliances and the future of the clan, while Ellen wants the freedom to choose Brian Fraser. That makes her romance with Brian more than a love story. Every decision she makes carries consequences for her brothers, the clan and the political world growing around them.
Knowing where Ellen’s story eventually leads gives the prequel its particular kind of tension. We know Brian and Ellen have a future together because Jamie exists. What we do not know is what they have to lose, betray or survive in order to reach it.
Jamie Roy As Brian Fraser
Jamie Roy plays Brian Fraser, Jamie Fraser’s father. Brian is the son of Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat, and Davina Porter, placing him inside one of the most complicated family relationships in the prequel.
The Brian we meet in Blood of My Blood is important because Outlander largely taught us about Jamie’s father through memory. The prequel gets to turn that inherited story into an active one. Brian has to decide what kind of Fraser he wants to be while living under the influence of a father who treats blood, marriage and inheritance as political tools.
That tension helps explain why Brian’s relationship with Ellen matters beyond romance. Choosing Ellen also means choosing a life that Lord Lovat does not completely control.
Go Deeper: The Fraser Family
Lord Lovat is one of the most important connections between Blood of My Blood and Jamie Fraser’s later family history.
Hermione Corfield As Julia Moriston Beauchamp
Hermione Corfield plays Julia Moriston Beauchamp, Claire Beauchamp’s mother. Julia may be the character who most radically expands what we thought we knew about Claire’s family because her story becomes directly connected to the time-travel mythology of Outlander.
Claire grew up without her parents, which means Julia existed in the original story mostly as part of Claire’s lost childhood. Blood of My Blood turns her into an active character with choices, fears, relationships and knowledge that Claire never had access to.
That makes Julia particularly important to the larger franchise. Anything the prequel reveals about what she experiences through time has the potential to change how we understand Claire’s family history and the rules surrounding the stones.
Jeremy Irvine As Henry Beauchamp
Jeremy Irvine plays Henry Beauchamp, Claire’s father. Henry’s story begins in the world of the First World War and becomes intertwined with Julia through the letters they exchange before their relationship is pulled into something far stranger.
Henry is also useful because his story gives the prequel a second kind of emotional inheritance. Brian and Ellen show us the family Jamie comes from. Henry and Julia show us how much of Claire’s own family history was missing from the story she believed about herself.
Claire’s Parents Explained
Julia and Henry have their own full guide covering their relationship, their connection to Claire, and what their story changes about the Beauchamp family.
The MacKenzie Family Cast
The MacKenzies are where the cast starts feeling immediately familiar to longtime Outlander viewers. Ellen is surrounded by younger versions of Colum, Dougal, Jocasta and other people whose personalities and political instincts eventually shape Castle Leoch and Jamie’s early life.
Séamus McLean Ross As Colum MacKenzie
Séamus McLean Ross plays Colum MacKenzie. Colum is Ellen’s brother and the man who eventually becomes laird of Clan MacKenzie. Blood of My Blood lets us see leadership becoming part of his identity instead of meeting him only after that role has hardened around him.
The important thing is not merely recognizing the future laird. Watching Colum and Dougal respond differently to responsibility, family and politics gives their later conflict in Outlander a history.

Sam Retford As Dougal MacKenzie
Sam Retford plays Dougal MacKenzie. Dougal is Ellen and Colum’s brother and one of the clearest bridges between the prequel’s clan politics and the Jacobite beliefs that later define him in Outlander.
The younger Dougal is especially valuable because we are watching political instinct become identity. His choices surrounding family, leadership and the Jacobite cause are not simply references to the original show; they are the beginning of the man Jamie and Claire eventually meet.

Sadhbh Malin As Jocasta MacKenzie Cameron
Sadhbh Malin plays Jocasta MacKenzie Cameron, Ellen’s sister and Jamie Fraser’s future Aunt Jocasta. Longtime viewers know the older Jocasta from Jamie and Claire’s years in America, but Blood of My Blood places her much earlier in the MacKenzie family story.
Her presence also gives the prequel another chance to show how differently the MacKenzie daughters experience marriage, obligation and freedom. Ellen’s attempts to choose her own future carry a different emotional weight when placed beside sisters whose lives are also being shaped by family expectations.
Ailsa Davidson As Janet MacKenzie
Ailsa Davidson plays Janet MacKenzie, another of Ellen’s sisters. Janet is part of the larger MacKenzie family network that eventually becomes Jamie Fraser’s maternal family, helping the prequel make the clan feel like a family before it becomes franchise history.
The Fraser Family Cast
Brian may be the Fraser at the center of the romance, but the deeper Fraser story runs through Lord Lovat, Davina Porter and Murtagh. Those relationships help explain why Brian becomes the kind of father Jamie remembers and why Jamie’s connection to Murtagh eventually becomes so deep.
Tony Curran As Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat
Tony Curran plays Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat. Known as the Old Fox, Lovat is Brian’s father and therefore Jamie Fraser’s grandfather. He is also one of the characters where the prequel’s family story and actual Scottish political history collide most directly.
Lovat thinks in terms of bloodline, inheritance, advantage and survival. That makes Brian’s personal choices political whether Brian wants them to be or not. It also gives Jamie’s paternal family history a much sharper edge than a simple family tree can show.

Sara Vickers As Davina Porter
Sara Vickers plays Davina Porter, Brian Fraser’s mother. Her story fills in a part of Brian’s background that matters because Brian’s identity cannot be understood solely through Lord Lovat. Davina gives the Fraser family another emotional and social perspective, particularly around power and the ways people survive beneath it.
Rory Alexander As Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser
Rory Alexander plays the younger Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser. He is connected to Brian’s Fraser family and eventually becomes Jamie Fraser’s godfather, sworn protector and one of the most important relationships in Jamie’s life.
Murtagh may be one of the best examples of what a prequel can actually add. Outlander already told us how fiercely he loved and protected Jamie. Blood of My Blood can show us where that loyalty came from by making Brian and Ellen part of Murtagh’s own emotional history.

Who Plays Maura Grant In Blood Of My Blood?
Bobby Rainsbury plays Maura Grant, who becomes Maura MacKenzie after marrying Dougal. Her introduction turns the Grant-MacKenzie political relationship into something personal and gives Dougal a marriage whose consequences can continue into Season 2.
Maura matters because marriages in Blood of My Blood are rarely just marriages. They are alliances between families, ways to stabilize political relationships, and sometimes attempts to force people into futures they did not choose. That makes her relationship with Dougal part of the same larger argument the show is making through Brian and Ellen.

Other Familiar Outlander Characters In The Blood Of My Blood Cast
The prequel also contains younger versions of several characters who may not belong to Jamie or Claire’s immediate family but still connect directly to the original series.
Conor MacNeill As Ned Gowan
Conor MacNeill plays the younger Ned Gowan. In Outlander, Ned becomes the MacKenzies’ lawyer and a valuable ally to Claire. Seeing him earlier allows Blood of My Blood to place him inside the political and legal machinery surrounding Clan MacKenzie before Claire ever arrives at Castle Leoch.
Sally Messham As Glenna Fitzgibbons
Sally Messham plays Glenna Fitzgibbons, the younger woman viewers eventually know as Mrs. Fitz. That makes her another direct bridge to the earliest days of Outlander, when Mrs. Fitz becomes one of the first people to help Claire survive the unfamiliar world of Castle Leoch.
Which Blood Of My Blood Characters Are Related To Jamie Fraser?
Jamie Fraser’s family connections run primarily through Brian Fraser and Ellen MacKenzie. Brian and Ellen are Jamie’s parents. Lord Lovat is his paternal grandfather. Davina Porter is Brian’s mother and therefore part of Jamie’s paternal family line. Colum, Dougal, Jocasta and Janet are Ellen’s siblings and therefore Jamie’s maternal aunts and uncles.
Murtagh is not Jamie’s parent or uncle, but his relationship with Brian and Ellen eventually leads to one of the defining bonds of Jamie’s life when Murtagh becomes his godfather and protector.

The family tree maps the Frasers, MacKenzies, Beauchamps and Grants and shows exactly how the prequel connects to Jamie and Claire.
Which Blood Of My Blood Characters Are Related To Claire?
Claire’s direct family connection is simpler but potentially even stranger. Julia Moriston Beauchamp and Henry Beauchamp are Claire’s parents, and their story becomes directly involved with the time-travel mythology surrounding the stones.
That matters because Claire grew up believing her parents died when she was young. The prequel therefore has room to reveal parts of Julia and Henry’s lives that Claire herself may never have known, allowing their story to add information without simply repeating something the original series already showed us.

Why The Blood Of My Blood Cast Matters To Outlander
The fun of this cast is not simply recognizing familiar names. A prequel becomes interesting when a younger character changes the way we understand the older version we already know.
Colum and Dougal matter when their younger selves explain why they eventually become such different kinds of leaders. Murtagh matters when his relationship with Brian and Ellen deepens the meaning of his devotion to Jamie. Lord Lovat matters when his obsession with blood and political survival adds context to the Fraser family Jamie inherits. Julia and Henry matter when their experiences complicate everything Claire believed about her own family.
That is the real promise of the Blood of My Blood cast: these characters are not Easter eggs walking around in costumes. They are the generation whose choices become somebody else’s history.
