Inside The NerdClan · Mary & Blake’s Producer’s Notes
Go inside our preparation for “The Veil of Time”—and see how a Brian Fraser argument turned into a Maisri prophecy rabbit hole.
Spoilers through “The Veil of Time” only. The prophecy and time-travel ideas below are theories, not confirmed developments.
I walked into this recording convinced Brian Fraser was the story. The speech works, Jamie Roy sells it, and you can already see the man who could raise Jamie Fraser. My problem was that Blood of My Blood seemed to hand Brian the finished version of leadership before we had watched him learn how to use it.
Mary pushed back. For her, the quiet man finally had something worth fighting for, and that pressure gave Brian his voice. That disagreement sharpened the craft question. Then six words from Maisri—“the gift is not in ye”—sent the conversation somewhere neither of us had planned.
By the time we finished, Brian was still interesting. Maisri had stolen the episode. The question worth bringing to the table became whether prophecy is actually unreliable—or whether people like Lovat make it unreliable by hearing exactly what they want to hear.
